Never you fear, because Nintendo has started offering the Game Boy Player Boot Disc as a replacement item in their online store. Even so, switching regions or swapping discs is a hassle, however slight.

The only real "flaw" with the imported Player was the need for a region coded boot disc, which means if your GameCube didn't have a region mod (or Freeloader swap disc), you'd be out of luck. This has caused the Player to be one of the hottest import items in a while, as the Player comes in four colors in Japan. like the decision to release the Game Boy Player in the US in only Jet Black. Sometimes, the ways of Nintendo confuse us. I'm sure there's something like that out there since the Player is a nice way to play those old GB games (and it's Progressive Scan too).Update: We've now had a chance to try the US Boot Disc on a modded GameCube and a Japanese Game Boy Player, and we're pleased to announce that as expected, it works flawlessly. You may want to consider looking around the web to see if there is a modchip for the GBP that will allow you to use the device without the need for the disc. I think needing a disc to play your device was a very stupid design decision because without that disc your Player becomes worthless. I definitely want that since getting good RGB out of it is a pain in the ass. There was somebody else that even made a small board that would give the N64 HDMI capabilities. Personally, I would rather go HDMI now that I have an HDMI monitor rather than Component Video. If successful, this would replace the hard to find and often expensive cable and would be cheaper too, especially since most TVs now are depreciating other video modes in favor of HDMI. However, according to a gamer friend of mine at work, apparently somebody is working to make an HDMI adapter for the GameCube's Digital A/V plug. Despite the sudden demand Nintendo wouldn't make any more cables. Luckily for me I managed to get two cables at the time of production stoppage and before their cost skyrocketed. They stopped production on the cable just as people were discovering the advantages of Component Video and Progressive Scan. This ensured that only Nintendo would make the cables. The chip was custom made specifically for Nintendo and they will not let the data sheets be released on the web. The reason that there are no 3rd party cables is that the Digital-to-Analog chip required to make the Component Video (or RGB Analog if you hack the cable correctly) is built into the cable plug itself. There are NO 3rd party component Gamecube cables.

Its just best to use a Wii for GC if you want the cleanest imagee at 480 Ive heard, but I found that hard to believe since the Wii is 480i and not 480p which that GC cable is. For a time the Japanese one wasnt so bad, but then collectors and resellers caught on so its a lost cause too. The formerly 10-15 dollar cable tops 100 now and even third party stuff doesnt trail much by association. Collector trolls have driven the price up on those to newer dumber heights talking up how rare any of them are and in particular the Nintendo one since they ignorantly only sold it online. Total dumb luck one disc without a player popped up at half price books for like 20, so in the end I was pissed, relieved, then saved 10 dollars for the aggravation of it all.Īs to the GC cables, good luck with that. I ended up buying one off a newb on NA over a year ago and the dick didnt bother to tell me it had no disc, ended up getting 1/2 my cash back and a paperweight, at least for a couple weeks. On top of that its not hard to assume theyd split the disc and player up, and not even at the same auction to arouse suspicion because you can get more for it parted out which sucks but happens. GBPs are built like a tank so the seller is either playing a gamble or they have a disc of their own and a lot of disc less GBPs lying around so its parted out.
